it is what it is

a guy that i met during freshman year of college was in town for christmas. since graduation, we've kept in touch through random emails. this past year, we lunched before he left chicago. he has a girlfriend and recently moved out west to be with her. i'm very cautious to label someone as my "friend" but he is my friend. he sent out an email to a few people letting them know when he'd be back in town for christmas. he called me today at 5:07pm and hes leaving tomorrow. whats so funny is that i thought about him this morning and was wondering if i was going to hear from him at all. for a split second, i considered calling him but didn't. so when my phone rang and i saw it was him, i ignored it. i just wasn't feeling it. i didn't want to hear the reason(s) why. i didn't want to make another set of fake plans for the next time he would be in town.

this past weekend was most excellent because a few of my guys from highschool came back from cali for christmas and i hung out with each of them. catching up with friends is something that i enjoy doing no matter how busy my life can get. i just wish this friend enjoyed this too. oh well. it is what it is. you cant change how people are, you can only change how you react to people. and thats what im going to do: not care. i guess you can say that i started not caring at 5:07pm.

i can't see out of my peephole...

...seriously.

i told my co-workers last night and chris this AM. they all replied "clean it" in a duh! sort of tone. but i told them "no no no. its too high. my peephole is too high". and as with all stories that i've shared with people about my quirky life experiences, they laughed.

my co-workers couldnt believe it. we were at my manager's condo last night celebrating his birthday. to prove i wasnt exaggerating: i walked up to the front door; stood on the tips of my toes; stretched my neck as much as i can; yearning to see through the peephole. they saw that i fell 2 inches short of looking out the peephole. there was more laughter that followed. then my manager and two of my teammates -- 5'11", 6'0", 5'7" -- took turns looking out the peephole. it was pretty funny. man, im really short.

my options are
a) buy a step stool to be placed at the front door;
b) drill another peephole;
c) place a pair of heels to be placed at the front door.
d) ask santa for two inches
